a good dish that can be had with dosas and idlis...changing the routine of sambars.
Ingredients
vegetarian 1 servings
1/2 cup channa dal
2 onions finely chopped
2 tomatoes
2 tbsp tamarind pulp
2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric
2 tbsp grated coconut(grind to paste)
1 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tsp saunf
3-4 whole red chillies
1/2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp jeera
few sprigs of coriander and curry leaves
salt to taste
Directions
soak channa dal for an hour and coarsely grind along with red chillies and saunf.
add 3 tsps of finely chopped onions and salt ,chopped coriander and curry leaves to this mixture and make small patties and deep fry in oil
set aside this on a tissue.
heat oil and season with mustard ,curry leaves and jeera and add the remaining onions.and fry well till soft.add the ginger garlic paste to it and fry again
add the tomatoes and all the spice powders.
add the tamarind pulp now and allow to boil till the raw smell leaves the curry, and the oil shows up.pour in some water and cook for another few minutes.
add the patties now to it and stir in the coconut paste and cook for just another 3-4 minutes and turn off.garnish with coriander leaves
