Sambar Powder

Spice mix for Sambar

Use this powder to turn any dull sambar into a delicious one. A tea-spoon of this powder added to the cooking can turn any novice cook into an expert! You can store this in the refrigerator for retaining freshness for up to one year.

Ingredients vegetarian 8 servings

  • ¾ cup Coriander Seeds
  • 10 nos. Red Chilies
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper, whole
  • ¼ tsp Fenugreek
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 cup Bengal Gram (split)

Directions

  1. Fry ingredients in a tea spoon of oil on low heat.
  2. Powder the fried stuff in a grinder when luke warm, to a fine powder.

Fenugreek means Methi dana(brown colour, bitter in taste); Bengal Gram is Chana Dal(Split yellow lentil).
