Anchovy Fish Kuzhambu using Microwave Oven

Anchovy fishes cooked in spices

Very tasty south indian preparation.The microwave cooking time may varry for other type of fishes depending upon the size of the fish and the quantity. Try this at home and add your comments.

Ingredients non vegetarian 4 servings

    • 15 no Anchovy fish- Wash and clean well with little salt.
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 1 tomato,chopped
    • 2 green chillies-slit lengthwise
    • 7 garlic cloves-peeled
    • 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
    • 1 tsp mustard seeds
    • ½ tsp cumin seeds
    • ½ tsp cumin powder
    • 1 ½ tsp chilli powder
    • 2 tsp corainder Powder
    • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
    • 2 cups tamarind extract of lemon size tamarind
    • ½ cup or 2 tbsp fresh coconut paste with little cumin seeds,5 pepper corns
    • 3 cups water
    • 1 ½ tsp salt to taste
    • 1 sprig curry leaves
    • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
    • 1 tbsp refined oil


    1. Take a microwavable bowl,add fenugreek seeds,mustard seeds,cumin seeds,chopped onions,garlic cloves,curry leaves and refined oil.Mix them well.Microwave high for 2 mins.
    2. Mix chopped tomato pieces,tamarind extract,1 cup water,half coriander leaves,chilli powder,coriander powder,cumin powder and turmeric powder.
    3. Add this to the step 1. bowl's mixture and mix well.Microwave this on high for 25 mins atleast.
    4. Take the bowl out and add coconut paste,2 green chillies,salt,cleaned Anchovy fishes,the remaining 2 cups water and the other-half coriander leaves.Mix them well.
    5. Microwave this on high for 12 mins atleast or 14-15 mins.(for other fishes upto 18-20 mins).
    6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve this tasty Anchovy fish Kuzhambu hot with rice, wheat dosa, chapathis, idlis etc.

    Hi Christy, Tried the Anchovy fish kuzhambu and it was excellent. A real good mouth watering fish curry that Richard enjoyed.
