Black-Plum Rasam

Rasam made with Jamun Fruits and spices

Black plum(jamun)or Naaval Pazham is very good for diabetic patients(for lowering cholesterol too). Dried jamun fruits and seeds,powdered(1-tsp Jamun powder) taken twice a day to bring down blood sugar.Don't add tamarind pulp but lemon juice instead.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 150 gms Black Plum -deseeded and chopped and pasted fine
    • 4 small onions(optional) - finely chopped
    • 2 whole red chillies
    • 1 tsp cumin seeds
    • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
    • 1 sprig curry leaves
    • a pinch of asafoetida powder
    • 1 Tomato - (crushed with hands in 1 cup water with few coriander leaves)
    • 1 tbsp lemon-juice(optional)
    • few chopped coriander
    • Make paste with 1 tsp cumin seeds, 5 cloves of garlic, 15 pepper corns with 1 cup water
    • 2 tsp refined oil
    • 1 tsp ginger julienned
    • 3/4 litre water
    • 2 tsp salt or to taste

    Directions

    1. Take a microwave bowl, add mustard seeds, chopped small onions(optional),whole red chillies, curry leaves  and little chopped coriander leaves and microwave this high for a min.
    2. Then add the fresh paste of garlic-pepper corns and needed salt.Microwave this on high for 2 mins.
    3. Add the crushed tomato(in 1 cup water),black-plum paste,3/4 litre water,lemon-juice(optional), the remaining chopped coriander leaves, asafoetida powder, ginger julienne and the needed salt.
    4. Microwave this on high for 12 mins.
    5. When the rasam brings to boil, Press Pause in the Microwave Oven and remove the bowl from the Oven and close the bowl with a lid.
    6. Serve this Jamun Rasam hot with plain rice and thick toordha l(ketti paruppu) curry or Strain and have it alone like a soup.
