Pomegranate Curd Rice

Curd Rice with pomegranate

This curd rice can be taken alone without any pickle.Green chillies instead of red chillies should be used for tadka.Diabetic patients please add BlackPlum (Jamun) pieces instead of pomegranate seeds.Others try this dish with seedless grapes .

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 1 1/2 cup raw rice
    • 1 pomegranate seeds - peeled and shredded
    • 5 cups water
    • 250 gm Plain Yoghurt
    • few curry leaves
    • few coriander leaves
    • 2 green chillies(chopped)
    • 3 tsp gram dhal(kadalai paruppu)
    • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
    • 1 1/2 tsp salt - to taste
    • 2 tsp refined oil


    1. Pressure cook rice with 5 cups water upto 6 whistle.Turn off the flame.
    2. After 10 mins time ,open the Pressure cooker and add salt and Plain Yoghurt and mix well.
    3. Heat oil in a kadai and add oil,mustard seeds,curry leaves,gram dhal,coriander leaves and chopped green chillies.Saute this for 2 mins and add this to the Curd rice.
    4. Finally add 1 cup pomegranate seeds and mix well.That's all.

    Thank u so much Deepanjali for ur nice variation of the dish.


    Add grated fresh cucmber to the curd rice. It gives it a better taste. Also mix the rice with the tadka first and then mix it with the curd.
