Greeks pronounce it YEEROS and this is one of the most popular dishes in that region

Ingredients non vegetarian 6 servings


    GYRO PATTIES 1/2 lb Lean ground meat 2 tbsp cup Oregano 1/2 tbsp Onion powder 1/4 tbsp Garlic powder 1/4 tsp Ground pepper (or more) 1 tsp Thyme (optional) 1/4 tsp Salt YOGURT SAUCE: 1/2 cup Plain yogurt 1/8 cup Finely chopped cucumber 1/8 cup Finely chopped onion 1 tsp Olive oil little Garlic powder Salt & white pepper to taste 3 large Pita breads; cut in half Thinly sliced onion rings

    Directions

    1. For patties: Preheat broiler or prepare barbeque.
    2. Combine ingredients lightly but thoroughly in large bowl.
    3. Shape into 16 thin patties and broil, turning once, until done as desired.
    4. For sauce: Combine first 4 ingredients in small bowl.
    5. Add garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste.
    6. To assemble sandwich, place 1 meat patty in each pita half and top with yogurt sauce and onion slices.

    I know gyros made from minced meat... tell us how we can make thin slices of it like outside ones?

    Just wondering, if you're using ground beef how is it gyros anymore? Isn't it just a ground beef wrap?
