Dates Halwa

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • ½ cup full cream milk
    • 15 no.s dates (de-seeded)
    • ½ cup sugar
    • ½ cup milk powder (made into thick paste with dates)
    • 2 tsp green cardamom powder
    • 1 tbsp ghee
    • 5 no.s almonds or cashews for garnishing


    1. Clean and blend dates with milk powder.Add milk and boil in a pan.
    2. When milk gets thickened, add dates-milk powder paste,green cardamom powder and cook stirring continuously.
    3. Add sugar and ghee. Cook on low flame till ghee oozes.Garnish with almond or cashews in centre of the halwa.

    U need to add atleast 4 tbsp ghee while making the halwa and the halwa should not thicken too much- like thick dark Idli batter.It happens within 25-30 mins of the dish.Otherwise the halwa becomes sticky and harder.

    Dates are said to be rich in Iron.U can do this recipe without adding the milk powder.The second part of the first Step should be : Take a pan and add 1/2 litre milk and bring it to boil.
