Murgh Methi- a variation

Chicken pieces cooked with dried methi leaves and spices

A famous North Indian Chicken Preparation to try at home.

Ingredients non vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1/2 kg Chicken pieces
    • 1 big onion-chopped
    • 1 big onion-pasted
    • 1/2 tomato-sliced
    • 1/2 tomato -choppedfine
    • 1 tsp fresh ginger-garlic paste
    • 1 tbsp cashew paste
    • few chopped coriander leaves
    • 4 green chillies-slit lengthwise
    • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
    • 1 tsp chicken masala powder
    • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
    • 1 1/2 tsp chilli powder
    • 1 tsp coriander powder
    • 1 tsp shajeera (black cumin seeds)
    • 1/2 tsp jeera powder
    • 1 tbsp dried kasur methi
    • 1 each cinnamon stick,clove,green cardamom
    • 1 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 tbsp refined oil
    • 3 tbsp water

    Directions

    1. Take a Microwave bowl,add oil,cinnamon stick,clove,cardamom,onion slices and microwave on high for 2 mins.
    2. Add onion paste, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, jeera powder, shajeera, garam masala powder or chicken masala,few coriander leaves,chopped tomato pieces and water.Mix well and microwave this on high for 3 mins.
    3. Add chicken pieces, kasur methi leaves,salt and 1/2 cup water and mix well.Microwave this on high for 10 mins.
    4. Take the bowl out and add cashew paste, 1/4 cup cashew paste washed water,green chillies(slit),sliced tomato pieces and the remaining coriander leaves.Mix this well and microwave this on medium for 10 or more mins till water runs dry.
    5. Serve this with rice, biryani, pulav etc,.

    This is a nice recipe, but is it necessary to use a pressure cooker to cook chicken and that to for 4 whistles? Broiler chickens cook in next to no time, so even cooking in a pressure cooker, once it comes on steam and gives off 1 whistle it is enough, then shut off the stove and let it cook under pressure till it cools down.

    Sorry to reply this late Anantha Padmanabhan.Heat oil in a pressure pan and add the ingreients mentioned in Step 1 and saute for 2 mins.Then, add the ingredients mentioned in Step 2 and saute for 3 mins.Next,add the ingredients mentioned in Step 3 and saute for 3 mins. Then,add the ingredients mentioned in Step 4, check for enough water and pressure-cook upto 4 whistles.Open the pressure-pan after 10 mins and saute till water runs dry.That'all!.Happy Cooking!.
