A version of idli

Hey all u dakshina kannadigas, i hope u like this simple recipe of Kadubu. Another version of Idli.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 1 cup Urad dal
    • 2 cups of rice rawa (cream of rice)
      (can get it easily at any of the new supermarkets)
    • salt to taste (preferably rock salt)


    1. Soak urad dal for four to five hours in water.
    2. Grind the dal to smooth batter with adding little water, it should be a bit loose than the idli batter.
    3. In the end add 2 tbsp. rock salt to the grinder before removing the batter.
    4. Now soak the rice rawa (not the idli rawa) in water for 15 minutes, clean it 3 to 4 times, drain the excess water and mix it to the kadubu batter.
    5. Let it ferment for 5 to 6 hrs or overnight if u want it for breakfast the next morning.
    6. Now pour this batter into long glasses, or kadubu glasses and steam it for 20 minutes.
    7. Put a knife into glass to know if the kadubu is done.
    8. Serve it hot with coconut chutney and home made butter.
