Gujrati Classic

The best kadhi I have ever tasted courtesy of my aunt

Ingredients vegetarian 6 servings

    • 1/2 gallon buttermilk
    • 5 tbsp yogurt
    • 1/2 cup gram flour (chana flour)
    • 3 cup water
    • 1 tbsp salt
    • 1 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 5 cloves Garlic
    • 5 green serano peppers
    • 1 inch ginger
    • 2 tbsp oil
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • 1/2 tsp methi
    • 2 small dry chillis
    • 1/8 tsp Hing (asafoetida)
    • 2 tbsp cilantro


    1. Combine buttermilk with the water, flour, and yogurt. whisk until flour melts into buttermilk
    2. Put on medium high heat until it boils
    3. Add the brown sugar, salt, add the chopped garlic, chopped peppers, and  grated ginger
    4. In a sauce pan put the oil on heat. once heated add cumin, methi, dry chilis, hing. cook for 30 seconds until brown
    5. Add the oil mixture into the butter milk mix. stir
    6. Mix for 5 min.
    7. Cool and enjoy




    Nice kadhi recipe. I am gujarati. we make it totally different way. Your recipe sounds yummy. I will definitely make it. Thanks for posting.
