Deep fried Urad balls

This is famous Andra dish. My mom is from Andra but she hadn't made this for a long time. Best way to finish leftover Dosa/Idli batter. This is my version.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 2 cups Dosa/Idli batter (or soak Urad dal & Rice for 4-5 hrs, grind separately, mix with salt & ferment overnight)
    • 2 tsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
    • 1 cup chopped Onion
    • 3-4 finely chopped Green chillies
    • 1/2 tsp finely chopped Ginger
    • 1/2 cup chopped Cilantro (coriander leaves)
    • 1 sprig Curry leaves (finely chopped)
    • Salt to taste
    • Vegetable Oil for frying

    Directions

    1. To the Dosa/Idli batter add all the above mentioned ingredients except Oil. Adjust Salt carefully as the batter already has Salt in it.
    2. Heat oil in a kadai. Drop 1 tbsp spoon of batter at a time in the Oil just like we make Boondi. Fry till golden colour on a Medium heat. Remove on a absorbent paper.
    3. Serve hot with Mint chutney & Tomato sauce or can be eaten just like that.

    Hi every one. I tried this & its very nice. I can call this as a snack which is really enjoyable with eveining tea. Hats off to Mrs. Soujanya Hariprasad for providing this excellent receipe.
