Spicy Eggplant

An easy to make spicy side dish

A traditional Andhra recipe that tastes good and liked by all

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

    • 1 big egg plant (brinjal)
    • small lemon-sized tamarind
    • 2 tbsp oil
    • Half tsp mustard seeds
    • 1 tbsp slit urad daal
    • Half tbsp chana daal
    • little jeera
    • little hing
    • 6-8 red chillies
    • salt to taste


    1. Roast the egg plant on the stove in simmer.
    2. Meanwhile soak tamarind in little water.
    3. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard, chana and urad dal, jeera, hing and red chillies and allow these to splutter and keep this aside. After it cools grind it in a mixer. Add soaked tamarind and grind again.
    4. After the egg plant gets roasted, allow it to cool and remove the charred skin.
    5. Now take this in a bowl and smash it.
    6. Add salt and the ground paste to the smashed egg plant.
    7. This spicy brinjal can be served with rice or roti.



    Dear Kalyani,after adding ground paste and salt,should we have to cook for sometime or immediately switch off.
