Dal Makhani Special

Rich Butter fried Dal

Chef recommended recipe. It's lip-smacking and restaurant like taste will amaze your guests.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

  • 2 tbsps. Kidney Beans
  • 1 tbsp Garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp All spice powder
  • 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1½ cups Tomato, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • ½ cup Black gram
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tbsps. Ginger, chopped
  • ½ cup Raw Cream
  • 3 tbsps. Butter
  • 1 cup Onion
  • 1 no. Bay leaves
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder


  1. Soak whole black urad and Rajma overnight.
  2. Cook the soaked dal and rajma in three cups of water with salt, red chili powder and half the chopped ginger in the pressure cooker for about 10 minutes, till dal and rajma are cooked and soft. (Timing differs depending on the size and kind of cooker)
  3. Heat oil and butter in a thick-bottomed pan. Add cumin seeds, when it crackles add chopped onions and fry till golden brown.
  4. Add chopped ginger and garlic, fry 2 minutes , then add chopped tomatoes. Add turmeric powder. Sauté till tomatoes are well cooked and oil start to separate. Add garam masala powder to this. Adjust seasoning.
  5. Add boiled dal and rajma now and simmer on very low heat for fifteen minutes.
  6. Add fresh cream and let it simmer for another five minutes.
  7. Serve hot with Naan or Paratha,Puri or Rice.

dear nidhi , it is given 1/2 cup of black gram which is whole black urad. urad dal is split one but urad r not .they r black gram lata means urad. this is my thinking.


How much urad dal? I guess u missed it in ingredients...


It is very very tasty but i added a little less of garlic



I think colour comes out nice red if we don t use turmric powder


Do you think 2 tbsp rajma and 1/2 cup black urad dal will yield enough dal for 4 adult male? Can I use 1/4 cup rajma and 1 cup black urad dal with same quantity of rest of the ingredients?

sorry not garlic,ginger & chilli powder.



raw smell will be there if we put garlic and red chilli powder while pressure cook.a kind of.

hello i tried this on whole masoor dal it came out well i miss my indian food in dhaka


hallo lataben,good recipe.. can we used tuvar dal instead of black gram..and also we can garnishing it with coriender and lemon juice....


you didn't mention the amount of black urad and rajma.
